FAQs

  • Will my resin age over time?
All resin ages over time. This is a natural process, but likely will go unnoticed if cared for properly. Do not keep your piece near windows or sunlight! Resin will yellow rapidly if it is exposed to UV light for extended periods of time. The Boston Boho uses the best quality resin that stays clear for longer and has anti yellowing qualities. Be sure to display your piece in an area that does not get bright light or direct sunlight. Exposing your piece to sunlight for extended periods of time will drastically age the resin and cause yellowing, even in the high quality resin. If you purchased an LED light up base for your resin, it will not age or yellow your piece.
  • Why will my order take so long?
Custom orders take anywhere between 4-5 weeks due to the preservation process and the resin pouring process. Depending on the types of flowers you have, the silica preservation could take anywhere between 1-2 weeks to completely dry out your flowers. When your flowers are ready to be designed, the resin is poured over them in 1/4 inch layers with 12-24 hour curing periods in between each pour. The layers need to be thin because the chemical reaction that occurs produces heat. If the layers are too thick, the heat may actually burn your flowers or not cure properly, leaving you with discolored flowers and a sticky feeling resin block. It's important to give a lot of time to the process in order to the best possible outcome.
  • My event was a while ago and my flowers are already dried. Can I still purchase a resin block?
Yes! Resin blocks can be made with both silica and air dried flowers. The only difference is that silica dried flowers appear more vibrant than most air dried flowers and hold their shape better as well. We will certainly still be able to make a beautiful arrangement with dried flowers, but it may look slightly more rustic and less colorful. Please note that because your flowers are already dried, they cannot be pressed, therefore you may not be able to make certain products like earrings and coasters that need flattened flowers. We can also recreate your bouquet with locally sourced flowers for only the additional cost of the flowers purchased. With this option, you will get a silica dried look and have the option for pressed items. Please contact us for more info on this.
  • What do you mean by not all flowers dry equally? How will I know if my flowers will look good?
Even silica dried flowers will change in color slightly. Certain blooms dry differently, but we will always use the best looking ones to create your bouquet. Below are some of the common changes you will see after your flowers are preserved: White flowers appear more yellow and antique-like Red flowers dry darker and appear more burgundy or brown Succulents do not dry. Instead, they will shrivel and wilt so they will need to be omitted or swapped out with fake ones Some blooms are very fragile and may lose their shape or become subtly translucent when resin is poured over them
  • How do I ship my flowers?
We recommend wrapping the bouquet in parchment or paper and shipping it in a large box. Be sure to fill any empty space in the box with extra paper or bubble wrap so the flowers don't move around and get damaged. Ship the flowers via UPS or FedEx with the fastest available shipping time to ensure that your flowers arrive as soon as possible. Overnight or 1 day shipping is ideal. 2 day shipping will still work, but your flowers may not look as fresh upon arrival, therefore giving your piece a more rustic look. If you are really nervous about transporting your flowers or only want to pay for 2 day shipping, you can purchase a wet floral block from amazon to transport your flowers with. These are green foam blocks that absorb water and keep your flowers hydrated for a short period of time. This will ensure that your flowers are still being hydrated even during the shipping process and will prolong the life during transport. To ship with a wet block read the tips below: Moisten the block by submerging it underwater. It will absorb the water and become heavy and soft Attach the stems of your bouquet into the block Thoroughly wrap the wet block in a plastic bag Tie the opening of the bag around the stems with a rubber band or string so no leakage occurs during transport. Transporting your flowers with a wet foam block is not necessary, but will help keep your flowers extra fresh if you are shipping on a hot summer day or only want to pay for 2 day shipping.
  • Why do you need the flowers to be shipped immediately after my event?
The flowers need to be as fresh as possible in order to give you the best quality during the preservation process. If the flowers are already wilting and dying, they may not keep their shape and could fall apart during the preservation stage. If you are having trouble coordinating the delivery, assign the task to a close friend or loved one take it off your hands. If you cannot find a way to ship the flowers right away, place them in water and keep them in a cool place out of the sun until you are able to ship them. If cared for properly, most flowers stay fresh for 2-3 days past the event. They can also be placed in the fridge to prolong the life even further, but please keep them close to the front or on the door of your fridge. When pushed to the back, they could accidentally freeze. If your flowers are already dried, there is no need to rush the shipping.
